This space seeks to explore the sonic worlds of African women. It is a Pan-African study in moving and stretching across temporalities and borderlines. It draws on the precise and necessary questions found within the work of Professor Micere Githae Mugo’s poems. It rests within the call to be opaque, to keep what is sacred, sacred. It is a response to the song sung through Saidiya Hartman’s theory of critical fabulation, a way to upend “the violence of the archive and the way power is registered through absences and silences, the obliteration of lives, all the things that we could not know.” It is a space of joy and beauty and deep listening. A space that grapples with the complexities of memory work with care, tenderness, patience, and softness.
